My talk will focus on the ways that embracing code and the technical side of building products can improve the practice of designers of all types. Benefits include:
- Knowing a platform well enough to play to its strengths, not its weaknesses
- Being able to prototype products more fully, making better design decisions, that are often left to developers
- Satisfaction of carrying a project from inception to completion
- Improved collaboration with developers.
My goal is that designers will leave the presentation with a determination to broaden their knowledge of development and the more technical side of their craft. I also want to show that a hybrid career of design/development is possible and satisfying.
